What it takes to be successful

The way to success in whatever endeavor a person embarks on is not always easy. Sometimes, there are challenges that a person must overcome, hurdles that one must scale, and difficulties that one must face. When problems arise, it should not be view as a stumbling block to people but a stepping stone to greater heights. In order to be successful, one needs courage to begin a task, the determination to keep going, and the perseverance to pick yourself up after you have fallen.

Courage is needed to be successful. Without courage, one may never attain to much in life. Looking at our society at large, most of the successful people we see today are courageous enough to overlook their fear and just work at whatever endeavor they think they are good at. It is not always about money and available resources because some have these and still cannot do anything with it. They are scared of using the money maybe because of the economy and other various factors and this is where courage comes in. Courage is the act of taking steps, and rising to the situation despite the fear and anxiety. It is trying to make something work. Cutting a new path like Maya Angelous wrote in her book, New Direction that, “I looked up the road I was going and back the way I come, and since I was not satisfied, I decided to step off the road and cut me a new path.” This takes courage. It is all about daring to explore, to expand, and to check out new horizon.

In the face of difficulties, a person needs determination to keep going, to continually work at the task. One must be determine to succeed, to achieve greatness and realize one’s dream and not close up when things do not go the way one hope they will. That should not discourage you but it should encourage you to keep trying, keep moving, and keep working at it. As some people usually say; “Rome was not built in a day” It takes time, energy, effort and the mindset of expecting the best and not just packing up and throwing in the shovels when one’s goals are not being realized at a particular time.

Finally, there is need for perseverance. Ability to persist in the face of trouble and what seems like an insurmountable mountain. Perseverance is needed as a quote goes “Quitters never wins and winners never quit”. Therefore, do not give in and bow to defeat just because it looks like you are not making progress. Keep at it. If Abraham Lincoln had given up at his first try at politics because he did not succeed at first, would people remember him as they do now? Great success does not come easily, it make look like you are never going to make it, but that does not guarantee that you will not. . Who knows, it may only take a little bit of extra hard work and then success, so persevere in the face of doubts.

Passion is not enough to be successful, talent will only get you half-way, it is the willingness to step out, to step up and rise to the challenge, and to continually work at it. Whatever obstacles that may arise, persevere and do not quit at the slightest problem.
